Hi Guys

Anyone got any views on this? As we are the cricket club maybe it is something we should look to restart. Even if it is just away of us getting more match practice. However it may also drum up more support/enthusiasm for people to start playing again etc.

The school no longer do cricket so our youngsters are literally playing 4-5 cricket matches PER SEASON! If they could get some midweek league action surely it could only improve them.

One issue I know is the pitches so looking for volunteers to test them out see if they are viable options.

We can just start it by asking people to create a team to play a friendly vs a select XI in the standard and see how much support we get.....even if some of our own members play for them.....e.g Shaun playing for a rugby XI or Trinity House putting a side in....any views would be appreciated

Good idea.

Maybe Andy C could contact Peter Cheeseman he was involved heavily in the old midweek league.

Even if you had 4/6 teams would be good to play again.

I mentioned about a month ago that, although it may be purely coincidental, the club's slide started about a season after the midweek league stopped.

I know it may not have been the highest of standards, but there is no better practice in any sport than match practice.

I shall spread the word and see what response we get.

I'm sure the Squirrells would be interested.

I'm sure a rugby club side would be interested. If you let me no about it i should be able to get a rugby club team.

It will also serve as great practice for both the youth and the senior members of the club.

ok malc I will try to arrange a game for the 22nd and let you know I will advertise in the standard to try and get some more fixtures done....however with the nights drawing in it maybe tight to get many in...but hopefully it will drum up support for a full league next year

I certainly dont think the Rugby Club astro turf pitch is fit to play on.
Also the outfield is shocking.

The other one is in better condition but would need some work.
Im sure the council are duty bound to do something about it.

yea great idea, may get more people interested in play again/starting up and you cant beat practice out in the middle!! could send a letter around to some clubs i.e rugby, football (harwich and oakley), golf club, services etc to see if thay show any interest.

HI Malc

Cant do the 22nd so probably cant get one in this season. But if you could see if the support is there then we are definitely going to look at setting up a midweek league next year. if we can get 4 teams then we can play each other twice plus a cup comp

the club could put one side in...probably and under 21's

maybe yourselves, services, golf club, rugby club

am going to check with the swimming pool on the pitches but could be a goer.
