2nd XI vs Felixstowe 2nd XI 16/6/07TWO COUNTIES DIVISION 7
HARWICH & DOVERCOURT II V FELIXSTOWE II
FELIXSTOWE WON BY SIX WICKETS
The home side were looking to bounce back under very gloomy conditions, but their efforts were made even harder from the off when skipper Ray Lovett lost the toss and Harwich were put into bat.
Felixstowe opening bowler Fry was getting plenty of variable bounce out of the wet wicket early on, but it was a yorker which hit the middle stump of John Lawrence in just the third over. Fellow opener Andy Carmichael went in quick succession off the bowling of Hopkins following poor shot selection.
This brought Garry Moors to the crease, who dug in to build a superb innings and try and give the hosts something to bowl at. Unfortunately, wickets regularly fell around him and only young Damien Smith went on to make double figures out of the rest of the order.
Moors went on to make a fine 62, before top-edging the ball high in the air and being caught by Hopkins, off the bowling of Donnelly. Although the wicket was very wet, and there were several interruptions for rain, Harwich must kick themselves for only managing a total of 122 all out.
In reply, Felixstowe started steadily and offered few chances to the fielding side. Although not starting off at a particularly quick run rate, the away side chipped away at the total and put on an opening partnership of 69, before Green was caught at gully by Aaron Trussler off the bowling of Aaron Rudkin.
Captain Bloomfield looked in fine form and put the Harwich attack to the sword. He went on to make a match winning 71, before being caught on the boundary by Moors, with Smith picking up the wicket.
Smith and Rudkin went on to pick up another wicket apiece, but this was mere consolation, as Felixstowe made the target with several overs to spare and finished on 123-4.
Harwich seconds look to get back on the win trail this Saturday when they travel to Witham, 2pm start.
