3rd XI vs Mistley 3rd XI 5/8/07TWO COUNTIES DIVISION C
HARWICH & DOVERCOURT III V MISTLEY III
HARWICH WON BY FOUR WICKETS
Harwich were looking to extend their winning run in this local derby, but it was Mistley skipper Andy Mills that won the toss and elected to bat on the Low Road wicket.
It was Harwich that made the positive start though, when Tommy Armstrong caught danger man Trevor Mills at point, off the bowling of Damien Smith for a duck. Butcher then came to the crease, but didn’t last long as he was removed by youngster Alam Khan, also for a duck.
Whilst the visitors’ top order kept holing out, Captain Mills kept a cool head and used all his experience to fend off the Harwich attack. His best support came from his son, Francis and the two put on a 90 partnership to give them something to bowl at. Whilst wickets regularly fell around him, Mills finished the innings on an unbeaten half century and posted a total of 191 all out, after Danny Goff picked up the final Mistley wicket from the last ball.
Despite looking comfortable early on, Harwich lost quick wickets in their reply and found themselves stuttering on 23-2, which was largely due to a consistent opening spell from Paul Tolman.
This brought Danny Goff to the crease, who continued in his rich vein of form and dispatched the Mistley attack to all parts of the ground. The home captain received superb support from one of Harwich’s rising stars, Jack Newell. Each went on to record half centuries in a 140 partnership that effectively sealed the victory for the hosts.
Despite a mini collapse in the middle order, Felgate and Fox guided their side home for a comfortable for wicket win with a total of 192-6.
This Sunday, Harwich make the trip to Kelvedon.
