3rd XI vs Sudbury 3rd XI 8/7/07

TWO COUNTIES DIVISION C

HARWICH & DOVERCOURT III V SUDBURY III

HARWICH WON BY 131 RUNS

Having been continually disrupted by the weather in recent weeks, Harwich were pleased to get a fixture in and elected to bat when skipper Danny Goff won the toss.

The home side got off to a steady start, but runs off the bat were quite difficult to come by with the Sudbury bowlers finding plenty of movement with the ball. The breakthrough came with the score on 32, when Lovett was bowled by one that kept low by French.

This brought in form Harwich captain Goff to the crease and he led by example again, producing a well timed innings to notch up another half century. Aaron Trussler was aiding his captain well at the other end, before being adjudged out LBW for 21 off the bowling of Stamp.

The home side then lost a few quick wickets and found themselves in a sticky situation on 120-5. However, Jimmy Goff and Ritchie Bushell came to the crease and put on a 60 partnership to ease the fears of the hosts.

Tommy Armstrong and Sam Felgate added useful cameos late on and Harwich ended with a total of 227-9.

Sudbury stuttered from the off in their reply and lost early wickets to leave them struggling on 15-4. Danny Goff and Ray Lovett accounted for two wickets apiece. The big hitting Harvey then came in and tried to make a game of it and top scored with 36, before being caught and bowled by part time spinner Andy Carmichael.

The Harwich attack continued to rip through the away side and brought up the win in the 34th over when Jim Goff bowled tail ender Griffith. Sudbury finished all out on 96 to give Harwich a timely and well deserved win.

This Sunday, Harwich entertain Frinton at Low Road, 2pm start.
