8 men under 14s vs clacton under 14sHarwich looking a little weakened due to call offs won the toss and elected to bat and looked in trouble after losing both openers cheaply which brought Roots and Cook to the crease and after a nervy start they grew in confidence and looked very stylish at the crease playing some good correct shots all around the wicket. The partnership lasted the best part of 15 overs for a partnership of 60 runs an enabled Harwich to post a respectable score of 70 for Clacton to chase.
Harwich went out to field knowing that things must be kept really tight and credit must go to all of the team for the effort and spirit in which they tried to defend their total. Alam Khan opened the bowling and for a very new recruit to the youth section showed real promise with a fine spell of 4 overs 2 wickets for only 8 runs conceded. He was very well supported by all the bowlers none of which let the team down and also young Will Cairns who kept wicket with real promise and determination. Harwich’s player of the match though was Paul Cook who nearly turned the match round in dramatic fashion by taking a Hat trick in his last over. Had it not been a fine 32 not out by opener Beeson Harwich nearly pulled off what looked like an impossible victory.
