Harwich 16s vs St osyth match report

HARWICH & DOVERCOURT UNDER 16’S AT HOME TO ST OSYTH UNDER 16’S

In perfect sunny conditions for cricket St Osyth won the toss and elected to bat. After a very tight first over from Damien Smith and good support from the other end from Jake Neale Harwich made an early bowling change bringing spin into the attack from Tommy Armstrong which soon reaped rewards with opener Waltham dragging the ball onto his stumps without scoring. This brought Bean to the crease to partner his Captain De’ath whose stay was also short lived after being clean bowled by Jake Neale for 9 runs. Bean was to end up St Osyth’s top scorer with a rapid 20 runs before another bowling change brought Jordan Gale into the attack who had Bean caught behind by Sam Felgate with his very first delivery. St Osyth now found runs very hard to come due to some very tight bowling by Joss Neale and the return of Damien Smith into the attack again. Jordan Gale was to be the pick of the Harwich bowlers taking 3 wickets 2 of which were fine stumpings by wicketkeeper Sam Felgate for 18 runs off of his 4 overs. Harwich’s one blemish in the field was to spill a number of catches which allowed the St Osyth lower order to post a respectable 94 runs leaving Harwich needing 95 runs for victory. Harwich’s reply didn’t start to well with the early loss of opener Sam Felgate for only 4 runs. This brought Jake Neale to the crease who quickly found his stride and made a very quick 28 before being well stumped by Handscape. This didn’t however stem the flow of runs as Craig Cook came out and followed on from Jakes good work with a very cultured 21 runs which set up Harwich’s victory. Damien Smith was run out for 10 runs but did a very good and patient job allowing the hitters to play their shots around him. The winning runs came from the bat of James Smith who hit a fine shot over the close fielders to the boundary.

Harwich & Dovercourt Under 16’s beat St Osyth Under 16’s by 5 wickets
