Harwich 1st XI vs Ipswich 2nds 16th JuneHarwich travelled to Ipswich on Saturday looking for a much needed win but ended with another disappointing defeat.
Having lost the toss Harwich were surprisingly asked to bowl in overcast conditions and on a green strip. King and Garner started off very well bowling very tight lines and quickly reduced the opposition to 41-4. Soon the heavens opened for the first time in the game which halted the momentum Harwich had built up. On return to the crease Harwich dropped 5 catches in quick succesion which allowed IPswich to build a good partnership which was broken by semple on 133. Garrner returned to take 4-47 with Semple taking 3-46 as Ipswich finished on 181-9.
Harwich promoted Dan Goff to open the innings and he got them off to a very quick start and Harwich were 49-0 off only 6 overs. Bilton fell first for 16 and Goff soon after for a brisk 35. This sadly led to the usual Harwich collapse to 93-5. Davis and Brown tried to create a partnership but, when the skipper went for 15 trying to up the run-rate, Harwich finally folded to 127 all-out.
Due to the poor weather all round the region this was the only game to finish and has seen Harwich fall into the bottom three. Next weeks match is against second from bottom Brightlingsea and a win is vital if Harwich dont want to see themselves in the relegation zone.
