Professional Coaching

Whats peoples thoughts on this ?
2/3/4/5 times a year a pro comes to the club (paid of course) to give us all - but especially youngsters a helping hand with our techniques ?

This is obviously in addition to the great coaching the youngsters already get from Moorsy / Warren / Dan / Phil and Dave Searle.

Good idea that browno. i'm all for that.

I can't agree with you on the subject of our youngsters receiving great coaching though.

I asked one of our promising young bowlers yesterday, while i was playing with him in the 3rd team, to show me how he holds the bowl when swinging it, he didn't have a clue. Now that is a basic thing to show/teach a young bowler, how you hold the ball.

In general, i thought the third team, in certain areas were a complete shambles. if this is where our younger players are going to be groomed then something must be done or we are going to get younger players coming up to the 1st/2nd not knowing the basics of cricket.

I agree, but I wasnt going to say it though !!!!

These poeple do give up lots of there time and that has to be applauded.

Its a shame more poeple like yaself couldn't play a few more games in the 3rds to offer such advice.

You're right! I applaud these people who give up their own time to get involved with the youngsters, but either they are being shown wrong, the youngsters don't listen or the people coaching the yougsters simply don't know themselves?
Artois

Weve asked Michael Wall to come and teach the youngsters about fielding positions
Paulo

I cant answer that, all I can do is try and find ways of helping these kids / young adults to improve.

Its the duty of people who do know to tell them correctly, if they dont listen / or dont want to listen what can you do ?

theres only so much dan warren and gary can do on a sunday morning beause there is so many of us the best way for us to learn is 1 on 1 coaching. i know my batting isnt upto scratch so ive spoke to warren and im having a batting session with him to help me warren always says if any1 not just juniors want coaching all they need to do is ask.
Artois

Hopper did bring this up at the A.G.M. Their hockey team had a proffesional coach come down for a day. Will have to check my notes for how much it cost, but he said the same are available for cricket
inzie

action...u shud be a coach
Paulo

yes Hopper did, but everyone thought his price was so cheap that we thought that the coach would be crap.

Since turns out (Davis has found out) its only £20 an hour.

This seriously needs to be put into action to help us all become better players.
cricketguru

its 20 quid per hour, I have advised what sort of training/ages we are looking at and I just have to go back with dates. Weekdays looks more likely

2 hours x 4 sessions = 160 quid

£2 quid per person per session at 20 people = 160 quid

pays itself!
mr goff

sounds good to me, i am sure that there will be alot of interest and more people turning up to nets
